SAN ANTONIO — Less than four minutes into the second half St. Mary's University senior
Alexis Truitt swiped the ball at midfield after a goal kick and dribbled back down the field, scoring from 25 yards out on a right-footed cross into the lower left corner of the net for the lone goal in the 1-0 win over rival, St. Edward's.
Truitt (Boerne, Texas) snapped a drought of five straight halves without a goal for the Rattlers (5-3-2, 3-1-1), scoring her second goal of the season and her second game-winner. She also won the game on the fourth goal against Westminster back on Sept. 7.
The win is the second straight over the Hilltoppers (2-6-2, 0-4-1) and keeps the Rattlers toward the top of the standings in the Lone Star Conference.
The Rattlers were aggressive in the game, out-shooting the Hilltoppers 27-to-12 on the night, forcing SEU goalkeeper Daria Schlumbohm into making seven saves. St. Ed's got more aggressive offensively as the game went on, as StMU senior keeper
Rebecca Difronzo (Bari, Italy) made five saves of her own, including a diving punch out late in the second half to keep the clean sheet intact.
Women's Soccer earns the first point of the year in the annual Battle of the Saints race for the Rattlers. Men's Soccer will compete on Saturday for the second point of the season.
The Rattlers head to Wichita Falls to take on Midwestern State at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs are 3-0-2 in league play and 7-1-2 overall after cruising past Eastern New Mexico, 6-1 on Wednesday night.
