Women's Tennis Quartet Competes at UIW Fall Tournament

SAN ANTONIO — Both Janel Ospanova and Stela Sifuentes posted 3-1 records in singles for the St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team at the UIW Fall Tournament.
 
"Janel played some really good singles," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "She showed us that she could play at a level consistent with the top of our lineup."
 
Ospanova beat a pair of Our Lady of the Lake players in the first two rounds before showing her grit in the semifinals with a 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 win over UIW's Estefania Gonzalez in the semifinals. She lost in the finals to Sofia Franco Salcedo, who knocked out three of the four Rattlers from the bracket.
 
Sifuentes lost in the quarterfinals of the main bracket but won her next two matches to end the weekend 3-1.
 
The Rattlers will wrap up the fall season at the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State, Oct. 26-28.
