CANYON, Texas — The St. Mary's Volleyball team continued to get better as the match went on but was unable to stop the No. 8 West Texas A&M offense for long, falling 12-25, 14-25, 23-25 on Saturday afternoon at The Box.
The Rattlers (13-8, 5-5) are the 11th straight team to lose to the Lady Buffs, as they improve to 17-3 overall and remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference play (10-0).
Senior
Alicia Virthe (Orlando, Fla.) led the team with eight kills, while sophomore
Madi Milligan (San Antonio) had one of the best matches of her young career, recording four kills on nine swings with no errors (.444) and a career-best and match-high tying five blocks.
Junior libero
Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) led the team with 10 digs, and senior setter
Cali Nims (Corpus Christi, Texas) added 20 assists.
The Rattlers hit .207 in the third set, matching the hitting percentage of the Lady Buffs, fighting back from a 20-14 deficit to pull within one, 24-23, but a well-called timeout by WT saw them record match point on the next play.
After four straight matches on the road, StMU returns home to host Lubbock Christian on Friday, Nov. 1, for Alumni Night at 6 p.m., followed by Senior Day on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Angelo State.
