Women's Soccer Stumbles at UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas — The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team dropped its first Lone Star Conference match of the season, falling 3-0 at UT Tyler.

With the loss, the Rattlers move to 4-3-1 on the year and 2-1-0 in Lone Star action, while the Patriots improve to 6-1-1 and 1-1-1 in league play.

The Patriots scored a pair of goals in the first half, netting one in the 26th and 43rd minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

At halftime, the Rattlers made a switch at goalkeeper, going to senior Melida Garza (New Braunfels, Texas). She made three saves, allowing only a goal on a penalty kick in the 81st minute.

Junior Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas) collected three shots on goal, while sophomore Malia Dominguez (Helotes, Texas) added two. 

UT Tyler was the aggressor, especially in the second half, where they outshot the Rattlers 10-to-2. 

The Rattlers return home to host Lubbock Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Lady Chaps dominated Eastern New Mexico 5-0 earlier on Wednesday.
