Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Buzzer Beater Breaks Hearts of Men's Basketball

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Entering Thursday night, each team had won 65 games in the series and the 131st meeting between St. Mary's University and Texas A&M Kingsville didn't disappoint as the teams needed an extra five minutes to decide the victor, with the Javelinas winning on a half-court shot at the buzzer, 80-78.

There were two official reviews in the final 15 seconds of regulation that had fans glued to the edges of their seats. One call was overturned and one was upheld, keeping the ball with St. Mary's both times, but the Javelinas were still able to force a turnover and tie the game, sending the game to overtime.

Senior Jalon Johnson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) took over in the third period for the Rattlers (5-6, 1-4 Lone Star Conference), scoring 10 of his 16 points and hitting all three of his shots from the field. Senior Lachlan Bofinger (Sydney, Australia) scored the other three points – all at the free throw line.

Franklin Agu (London, England) recorded the first double-double of his St. Mary's career with 10 points and 10 rebounds, becoming the second Rattler this season to post double figures in both categories in the same game (Bofinger). Senior Keith Dinwiddie (Los Angeles, Calif.) was the third Rattler in double digits in scoring with 11 points.

Both Johnson and Davion Coleman (Houston) led the Rattlers with four assists and Johnson led the way with two steals.

All 10 Rattlers who saw action grabbed at least one rebound as they won the battle of the boards, 43-to-38.

Jason Clark led a quartet of Javelinas with 17 points, while Allen Singleton hit the buzzer beater to end the night with 13. Zyon Little led with six rebounds and C.J. Smith had a game-high six assists.

The Rattlers remain on the road, playing at Texas A&M International on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Dustdevils lost a close, 62-61 contest to St. Edward's on Thursday night.
