Box Score 1 SAN ANTONIO — Playing three matches in two days forced the St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team to rely on their off-seasoning conditioning as they split a doubleheader on Saturday in the final exhibition matches of the year.

"Overall, I think we competed at a high level today," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "Cowley County is a national championship caliber team (NJCAA) so I'm happy with our play."

The Rattlers lost the first match, 4-3 to Cowley County before rebounding with a 7-0 victory over Jacksonville College.

The Tigers jumped out to the early lead by winning the doubles point, though the Rattlers tandem of San Antonio seniors
Bailey Godwin and
Kyndall Quiroz won a tightly contested battle at No. 3, 7-6 (7-5).

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets with the Tigers winning at No. 1, 2 and 4 and the Rattlers bringing home victories at No. 3, 5 and 6.

Sophomore
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) broke serve late in the first set for the 7-5 win and carried the momentum to a 6-3 second-set victory.

At No. 5, sophomore
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) won by the score of 6-2, 6-3 and Quiroz posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6.

In the nightcap, the Rattlers faced a short-handed Jacksonville squad that only has four healthy players.

Godwin and Quiroz, playing at No. 1 doubles won their second of the day with a 7-6 (7-3) score, while
Elisa Rodriguez (Houston) and freshman
Janel Ospanova (Karganda, Kazakhstan) won 6-2 at No. 2 for the doubles point.

Three of the four Rattlers posted straight-set victories, while Quiroz won a hard-fought three-setter at No. 1, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).

The Rattlers open the regular season on Feb. 3 when they welcome UTRGV to town. Match time is slated for noon at the Rohrbach Tennis Stadium.Â
