SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Angelo State University Men's Basketball had the hot shooting hands on Thursday night, hitting 17 three-pointers in a 111-89 win over St. Mary's University.
The Rattlers (8-9, 4-7 Lone Star Conference) played pressure defense throughout much of the game, but the Rams (13-5, 8-4 Lone Star) were able to shoot 58.7 percent from the field, 56.7 from the three-point line and 90.9 percent from the free throw line in the win.
Four Rattlers scored in double digits, led by senior
Lachlan Bofinger's (Sydney, Australia) 22.
Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) scored 14 and both seniors
Davion Coleman (Houston) and
Edward Manuel (Lake Charles, La.) came off the bench to add 10.
Franklin Agu (London, England) and
Jalon Johnson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) tied for team-high honors with seven rebounds each and Johnson led the team with six assists.
The Rattlers now head to UT Permian Basin for a 3 p.m. Saturday contest. The Falcons lost 78-68 on Thursday evening to St. Edward's.
NEWS & NOTES:
- St. Mary's collected more rebounds on the offensive end of the floor than the defensive end, 21-to-20. The Rattlers scored 21 second-chance points.
- For the first time in 12 games, Tyler Caron did not make a three-pointer. It is only the second time this year he hasn't connected from long distance. The senior did, however, hit all six of his free throw attempts for a season-high from the charity stripe and record the 100th assist of his career.
- With his 10 points on the night, Edward Manuel scored the 200th point of his career and now has 201. A total of 169 of those 201 points have come in a Rattler uniform.
