Shelby Paniagua had a hand in both goals as the St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team defeated Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon, 2-1, at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

In the 24th minute on a corner kick, Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas) sent up a brilliant ball from the left corner that was cleanly headed into the net by senior
Love' Tovar (El Paso, Texas) for the 1-0 lead.

In the 40th minute, Paniagua took a free kick from approximately 30 yards out, sneaking the ball in under the crossbar in the right side of the net for her fifth goal of the year.

With just over three minutes remaining, the Mustangs (5-3-2, 2-2-0 Lone Star Conference) snuck in a goal as Lexi Beck found Allessandra Romano for a header for the 2-1 final score.

The victory is the fourth of the year for the Rattlers as they move to 4-2-4 overall and 3-1 in Lone Star action.Â

The team remains at home, hosting Angelo State on Wednesday evening as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Both matches will be Pink Out night, raising awareness for breast cancer awareness.
