Women's Soccer Drops Battle of the Saints in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team once again had to play catch up, surrendering an early goal, and they eventually fell 2-1 in the Battle of the Saints on Wednesday afternoon.
 
St. Edward's (3-2-1, 2-1-0 Lone Star Conference) scored in the sixth minute to put the Rattlers (3-2-4, 2-1-0 Lone Star) in a pinch. StMU was the more aggressive team throughout, out-shooting the Hilltoppers 12-8 overall and 6-4 in shots on goal, as well as 8-to-2 on corner kicks.
 
Senior transfer Alexis Truitt (Boerne, Texas) evened the score in the 50th minute, taking a feed from reigning Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week Juni Ejere (Weatherford, Texas) and finding the back of the net.
 
In the 68th minute, the Hilltoppers took the lead for good on a goal by Ari Garcia for the 2-1 final score.
 
The Rattlers return home to host Midwestern State on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. The Mustangs host Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday evening.
