SAN ANTONIO — It was the happiest of birthdays for St. Mary's University Volleyball student-athlete
Cali Nims as she helped lead the Rattlers to a 3-1 victory over Midwestern State University on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Nims, a junior from Corpus Christi, Texas, tallied a career-high 46 assists and added 12 digs for her second-straight double-double and 23rd of her career as the Rattlers (6-7, 1-1 Lone Star) snapped a five-match losing streak.
Â
The Rattlers had three players record double-doubles in the match for the first time this season and the first time since Nov. 2, 2022, at Texas A&M Kingsville in the regular season finale as sophomore
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas) recorded 18 kills and 13 digs and junior
Alicia Virthe (Orlando, Fla.) notched the first one of her career with 14 kills and a career-best 10 digs. Withers also came within one kill of matching her career-high of 19 done twice last year.
Â
Sophomore libero
Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) led the match with 24 digs, surpassing the 20-dig milestone for the ninth time in her career. For the second straight day, junior
Landry Cate (Hot Springs, Ark.) led the Rattlers with six blocks, collecting two solos and four assists.
Â
The only set the Rattlers led wire-to-wire was the fourth and final set, though there were two ties. In the other three sets, the teams were tied 30 times and saw 15 lead changes.
Â
The road-tested Rattlers head back out next week, playing at Cameron on Friday and third-ranked West Texas A&M on Saturday. The Aggies are 0-2 in league play after falling in straight sets at DBU on Saturday afternoon.
