Women's Tennis Hosts Two to Conclude Regular Season

NET POINTS

•    St. Mary's wraps up the regular season, hosting UT Permian Basin on 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by Western New Mexico at Noon on Saturday. The Senior Day celebrations will take place between the men's match, which starts at 9 a.m. and the women's match.

•    The Rattlers will honor Gabi Ioannou, Ashley Penshorn and Angela Vargas for their amazing contributions to the team.

•    StMU is a perfect 9-0 in matches against UT Permian Basin, including a 4-0 record at home. A year ago, the Rattlers won 6-1 in Odessa.

•    The Rattlers are also undefeated in matches against Western New Mexico with an unblemished 6-0 mark. The team is 2-0 at home all-time and won 6-1 a year ago in Silver City.

•    Senior Gabi Ioannou's next win in singles will be the 40th of her career. She is also two victories shy of the same milestone in doubles duals.

•    The Rattlers are 4-1 against teams in the top 50 in the ITA poll this season, with the lone loss coming at the hands of No. 13 Cameron.

•    The duo of senior Gabi Ioannou and freshman Stela Sifuentes has been on fire since first coming together this spring. The pair are 11-1 in doubles matches, with nine victories coming at #3.

•    St. Mary's dropped four spots to #21 in the national rankings this week. The team had been 17th in each of the last three polls.

•    Angela Vargas sports the team's longest active winning streak in singles as she has won nine straight. The senior has also won eight of the nine in straight sets, only needing three in the upset over #32 Anastasia Uspenskaia from Cameron on Saturday.

•    In the ITA individual rankings, senior Ashley Penshorn is 27th in the singles rankings this week, while senior Angela Vargas now appears at #43. Penshorn and  Kyndall Quiroz are also #9 in the doubles rankings.

•    Senior Ashley Penshorn earned the Lone Star Women's Tennis Player of the Week twice in a row on the long Spring Break trip. Penshorn is 17-4 in duals this season and has 74 career victories in duals. She is three wins shy of the all-time mark of 77 by Cristina Lopez (2012-16).
