SAN ANTONIO – Despite a 2-for-3 day by
Lauren Gonzales, the St. Mary's Softball team was unable to generate much offense in the 11-1 loss to No. 3 UT Tyler on Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Gonzales, a junior from San Antonio, recorded two of the Rattlers (26-20, 16-17 Lone Star) three hits on the day against undefeated Tatum Goff (26-0). Fellow San Antonio junior
Destiny Salinas had the team's other hit and it was a triple over the centerfielder's head. She came around to score on an infield single by Gonzales in the fifth.
Â
The Patriots (40-4, 28-2 Lone Star) had three crooked innings, including a five-run third to break open the game and help UTT win its 17th consecutive game, the longest active streak in the Lone Star as well as Division II.
Â
Jamison Holder (Magnolia, Texas),
Emily Ayala (San Antonio) and
Kaylynne Ruiz (Eagle Pass, Texas) each drew a walk in the contest.
Â
Sophomore
Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) fell to 5-6 on the year with the loss. She pitched a total of 3.1 innings, working 2.1 at the start and returning to the circle for the final frame. Ayala worked the middle 2.2 innings, allowing only one run on five hits.Â
Â
St. Mary's travels to Wichita Falls for a three-game series at Midwestern State beginning on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. The Mustangs were just swept in a three-game set at Texas A&M Kingsville and are 8-34 on the season.
