TYLER, Texas – St. Mary's junior
Oskar Irdoja won the lone point for the Men's Tennis team against a talented Mississippi College team on Saturday on the UT Tyler campus.
Â
Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) won a hard-fought first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5) and had an easier time in the second set, winning 6-1.
Â
Both junior
Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) and senior
Sebastian Azcui (La Paz, Bolivia) fell in tough three-set matches at #5 and #6, respectively. Faryniarz lost a first set tiebreaker, won the second set by the 6-3 tally and fell 10-8 in the international doubles 10-point tiebreaker. Azcui lost 6-4 in the first set, got the late break of serve for the 7-5 win in the second set and fell in extra points, 11-9 in the third set.
Â
"The guys battled the entire time today," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "They were pretty much a service break difference on most of the courts so the match could have swung in our favor. I think they all did a much better job setting up their points than last weekend."
Â
Azcui and freshman
Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) won the lone match in doubles for the Gold & Blue, winning 6-2 at #3.
Â
The Rattlers play at UT Dallas on Saturday at Noon.
