Men's Basketball Leads Wire-to-Wire

SAN ANTONIO – Five scored in double figures as the St. Mary's Men's Basketball team led wire-to-wire on Thursday night, defeating Oklahoma Christian 73-59.

The Rattlers (13-9, 10-7 Lone Star Conference) jumped out to a quick 25-8 lead with 11:33 to play in the first half and sustained the lead throughout to complete the season sweep over the Eagles.

A big reason for the Rattlers success during the game was how they took care of the ball. The team turned the ball over a season-low six times and one was a shot clock violation with seconds remaining in the game as they held the ball.

Junior guard Jalon Johnson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) paced the team with 16 points, scoring in double figures for the third time in four games. Junior Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) scored 14, hitting his first four shots of the game to help the Rattlers build the lead. Senior Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) tallied 13 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.

Senior Mamady Djikine (Paris, France) posted the eighth double-double of his StMU career and the first this season with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) filled the stat sheet. He scored 11, grabbed five rebounds, led the team with four assists, stole two balls and blocked two shots.

Senior Emmanuel Ewuzie (San Antonio) was the only other Rattler to score, totaling seven points and he blocked three shots to tie the school's single season record with 44. He knots Erik Coleman from the 1993-94 season.

The Rattlers close out a four-game home stretch, hosting UAFS on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Lions lost 81-77 at St. Edward's earlier on Thursday night.
