Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Five Score in Double Figures in MBB Lopsided Win

SAN ANTONIO – For the second-straight game, the St. Mary's Men's Basketball team had five players score in double figures in a lopsided 83-67 win over UAFS.

The Rattlers (14-9, 11-7 Lone Star) scored 44 points in the paint and never trailed during the game, leading for 39:23 of the 40 minutes.

Both juniors Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) and Jalon Jordan (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) scored 17 to tie for team-high honors. Seniors Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) and Mamady Djikine (Paris, France) each scored 13 and senior Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) chipped in 10.

The Rattlers also out-rebounded the Lions (10-15, 6-13 Lone Star), 22-to-20 though rebounds were at a premium with both teams shooting at least 55 percent for the game. StMU shot a season-best 64.2 percent – which is also the top mark in the Lone Star Conference in 2022-23.

Leonard grabbed a team-high five rebounds, while Johnson doled out six assists – matching the entire total of the UAFS squad.

Senior Emmanuel Ewuzie (San Antonio) broke the St. Mary's single season blocked shot record with his one on the afternoon, surpassing Erik Coleman's tally of 44 from 1993-94. It brings his career total to 99 and he's 13 shy of tying the career mark of 112 by Kevin Kotzuer (2010-13).

StMU hits the road for three straight, beginning with West Texas A&M on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The final home game – on Feb. 23 against St. Edward's – will be senior night, honoring the accomplishments of those finishing their careers in the Gold & Blue.
