Box Score KERRVILLE, Texas – Eager to get the 2023 season underway, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis team, ranked 12th in the nation shut down Schreiner 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Rattlers (4-0) dropped only four games in the three doubles matches and seven games in the 12 sets of singles play.

The tandem of senior
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) and junior
Kyndall Quiroz (San Antonio) won 8-3 at #1 doubles, continuing a great partnership that started in the fall with a win at the ITA South Central Regional.

Senior
Gabi Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) and sophomore
Callah Preti (Liberty Lake, Wash.) teamed up for the first time this season at #2 doubles, winning 8-1 and the freshmen duo of
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) and
Stela Sifuentes (Eagle Pass, Texas) – also playing together for the first time this year – shut out the #3 doubles team for the Mountaineers (0-1), 8-0.

Both Terlizzi and Preti carried the momentum over into singles action, winning via shutouts at #5 and #6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.Â

At the top ladder position, Penshorn took a 4-0 lead in the first set before being broken. She didn't drop another game in the match for the 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Angela Vargas (Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico) won her first eight games at #2 singles for the 6-0, 6-2 win.

Both Quiroz and junior
Elena Munoz (Corregidora, Queretaro, Mexico) won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-1 at #3 and #4 singles, respectively.

The Rattlers host cross-town foe, Our Lady of the Lake next Saturday at Rohrbach Tennis Stadium at 9:30 a.m.
