Men's Basketball Drops One-Point Heartbreaker

SAN ANTONIO – For the third time this season senior Caleb Jordan topped the 25-point milestone, scoring 28, but the St. Mary's Men's Basketball team lost by one, 85-84 to DBU on Saturday evening.

Jordan, a senior from Midlothian, Texas scored the first nine points of the game and was a perfect 3-for-3 from deep and 7-for-7 at the free throw line to lead all scorers and lift him above the 1,500 career-point benchmark. Jordan now has 1,515 points, moving him into seventh on the St. Mary's career scoring list past both Anthony Houston (1,498; 1986-89) and Robert Reid (1,509; 1974-77). The fifth-year senior also corralled the 300th rebound of his career in the contest.

Senior Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) tied his career-high with eight assists and added 14 points, while junior Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) returned to the double-figure scoring list for the first time in six games with 19 points – including a half-court shot at the buzzer that unfortunately wasn't worth four points to knot the score. Caron also led the club with three steals.

Senior Emmanuel Ewuzie (San Antonio) narrowly missed the second double-double of his career, leading the team with 10 rebounds and adding nine points. Six of his 10 boards were on the offensive end of the floor, helping the Rattlers tally 16.

The Rattlers (12-9, 9-7 Lone Star) built a 12-point lead at halftime, but the Patriots (13-10, 8-7 Lone Star) barely missed a shot in the second half, connecting on 71 percent from the field to erase the deficit. The last three losses for the Gold & Blue have been by a combined five points.

DBU was led by Ta'Jay Dunlap with 21 points, while Carson Hughes scored 20, Cameron Kahn had a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds and Ricky Lujan added 17.

St. Mary's remains at home, hosting Oklahoma Christian and UAFS on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
