Score Not Indicative of Closeness in Men's Tennis

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – St. Mary's battled not only Midwestern State, but the chilly elements in Wichita Falls on Saturday, dropping a 6-1 decision.

"The final score does not indicate how close the match really was," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "We played at a pretty good level at each line today and battled to the finish."

Sophomore Alvaro Soler made the most of his opportunity moving up the ladder, winning in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2 to improve to 2-0 in Lone Star play.

Junior Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) was involved in the only three-set match of the day. He won the opening set 6-2, then dropped the second by the same score. The two then battled to a 10-7 final in the international doubles tiebreaker.

St. Mary's will face Mississippi College at UT Tyler at 2:30 on Saturday, March 4 before taking on UT Dallas on Sunday at Noon.
