CANYON, Texas – Scoring was at a premium for both teams for most of the game on Thursday as St. Mary's Women's Basketball dropped a 48-34 decision at West Texas A&M.

The two teams scored a combined 29 points in the first half, with only eight points in the second period. The pace picked up in the second half with 53 combined points, however the Rattlers (7-18, 3-16 Lone Star) finished 1-for-10 in their last 10 shots as the Lady Buffs (19-8, 12-7 Lone Star) pulled away late.

With the low score, no Rattler hit double figures in points with freshman
Gabby Elliott (San Antonio), senior
Briley Perkins (Houston) and junior
Ariah Powell (Detroit, Mich.) all tallying seven. Elliott also paced the team with 10 rebounds.

Tonia Bilic (Zagreb, Croatia) had two assists, while Elliott collected a career-best four steals and she had the lone blocked shot for the Gold & Blue.

Azia Himeur and Kyla Kane each scored 11 to lead the game, while Lauren Taylor managed a double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 points.

St. Mary's continues the three-game road trip at Lubbock Christian on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
