TYLER, Texas – The St. Mary's Baseball team had a lead in each game of the doubleheader on Saturday at UT Tyler, but seven errors proved costly as they lost 13-6 and 7-4.

The Rattlers are now 3-4 on the season and conclude the series with the UT Tyler Patriots (5-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

GAME ONE RECAP
Clay Bradford (Atascocita, Texas) started on the hill in game one for the Gold & Blue, moving to 1-1 on the year. He threw three innings, allowing eight runs though only one was earned. The Patriots collected five hits, three walks and three struck out against the junior.  Freshman
Brandon Vasquez (Round Rock, Texas) threw the final three innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with no walks and a pair of K's.

Jacob Elizondo (San Antonio) and freshman
Jacob King (San Antonio) hit their first home runs of the season as part of multi-hit games for each and the pair drove in five of the six runs.

With one out in the first inning, Elizondo homered for the second time in his career, clearing the fence down the right field line for the early 1-0 lead.

The Patriots answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, but there was again an immediate response. With one out senior
Ryan McGowen (San Antonio) reached on an error and junior
Elias Koury (Lecheria, Anzoategui, Venezuela) walked. King blasted a shot over the centerfield fence to give StMU a 3-2 advantage.

UTT scored four in the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth to take an 13-4 lead going into the final inning.

McGowen started the seventh with a single to right field and advanced 90 feet on a walk by Koury. The pair moved up a bag on a wild pitch and King walked to load the bases. Senior
Jake Mares (Fort Worth, Texas) grounded out to second to score McGowen and after a pitching change, Elizondo singled to short to score Koury for the 13-6 final score.

GAME TWO RECAP
Senior
Rudy Solis (El Paso, Texas) had both of the team's hits in the nightcap as the Rattlers scored four runs on two hits with five walks and two UTT errors.

John Curtis (Athens, Tenn.) pitched 4.1 innings in a no decision. He gave up three runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Junior
Andrew Girod (San Antonio) was credited with the loss as he was on the hill when the Patriots scored four unearned runs on one hit. He walked one and fanned four in 1.2 innings of work.

The Patriots scored the first run of the game in the first frame. In the second, junior
Easton Parrish (La Vernia, Texas) walked and was erased on a fielder's choice off the bat of McGowen. McGowen swiped second base and scored on a single by Solis through the right side to knot the score at 1-1.

Devin Goins (San Antonio), King and Mares all walked to begin the third, forcing the Patriots into a pitching change. A wild pitch moved everyone up 90 feet and gave the Rattlers a 2-1 lead. A fielding error on a ball hit to shortstop by Elizondo scored King. Bradford walked to reload the bags and Parrish hit a sacrifice fly to left, plating Mares for the 4-1 advantage.

The Patriots got two runs back in the bottom of the third on two hits. The score remained 4-3 until the bottom of the sixth when UTT scored four on one hit with three Rattler miscues for the 7-4 final score.
