Koehl Earns All-Academic Honors

DALLAS — Not only does Alyssa Koehl get it done on the court, but the sophomore for St. Mary's University Volleyball also gets it done in the classroom as she was named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic team on Wednesday.

Koehl, a libero from New Braunfels, Texas, was named to the 14-woman team as the lone representative for the Rattlers. She is one of four sophomores named to the team that combines academic prowess and athletic skills and is voted on by the league's athletics communications personnel.

Koehl is majoring in exercise and sport science and led the Rattlers with 4.57 digs per set and posted a career-best 31 digs in the season finale win over Texas A&M Kingsville. She notched 10 or more digs in 26 of 27 matches — and had nine in the other — finishing the season with 20 or more digs in five of the final seven.

Angelo State's Hannah Kinnison was named the Academic Athlete of the Year at the annual Lone Star Conference Championship banquet. The Rattlers wrapped up their season with a 12-15 overall record, winning two of their final three matches against regionally-ranked teams.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of their team's contests; reached sophomore athletic and academic standing; completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution; and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average over their collegiate career.
