Men's Soccer Falters at #2 Midwestern State, Earns Four Seed

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — The result on the scoreboard may not have been what the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team hoped for, but the results around the league have the Rattlers hosting the first match of the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

On Wednesday, the Rattlers concluded the regular season with a 2-0 loss to No. 2 Midwestern State and locked up the fourth seed in the upcoming tournament with an 8-4-6 overall record and a 2-2-5 league mark.

"This one is disappointing," said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. "I thought the boys worked really hard tonight and had great defensive work. Unfortunately, a few errors cost us and we were not good enough going forward, which ultimately cost us the game."

In the 27th minute, Samuele Muroni scored for the Mustangs (17-0-1, 9-0 Lone Star), while superstar Mere' Escobar struck in the 67th minute for the 2-0 final.

Freshman Gael Gallegos (Laredo, Texas), junior Lewis Nohar (Cumnock, Scotland) and senior Jose Llano (Mexico City, Mexico) each had a shot on goal, but Adam Braman made three saves to keep the Rattlers off the scoreboard.

StMU senior Andre Schlaefli (Katy, Texas) made a season-high six saves on the night as the Mustangs took 16 shots with eight on goal.

The official seedings and game times will be announced on Thursday.
