Men's Soccer Ends in Draw at West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas — The St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team worked a 1-1 draw at West Texas A&M on Wednesday evening, posting the same score as a season ago in Canyon.

For the second-straight match, senior Cian Foley (Wexford, Ireland) found a streaking Adam Aboohamidi (Wolfforth, Texas) for a Rattlers (6-3-3, 0-1-2 Lone Star) goal. It is Aboohamidi's second goal of the season and Foley's fifth assist.

"We are definitely disappointed to not take all three points," said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. "If a few decisions had gone the other way, I think it could have ended much differently. I thought we played really well tonight and got really unfortunate not to put the ball in the net more than once. That's football, though, and I'm proud of our performance. West Texas A&M is very well coached and extremely hard-working, so this is a good point on the road."

The Buffs (5-3-3, 2-0-1 Lone Star) struck first, scoring in the 27th minute. The Rattlers thought they also had a goal in the first half, but it was waved off for not crossing the line. Aboohamidi scored in the 57th minute to knot the score. WT also thought it had a second goal scored, but the officials said time in the match had expired, so it was also waved off.

Senior goalkeeper Andre Schlaefli (Katy, Texas) made four saves, three coming in the second half, helping the team get back into the match.

St. Mary's did not commit a foul in the second half and were only whistled twice in the match, continuing to be one of the nation's leaders in fewest fouls.

The Rattlers return home after the long road trip, hosting Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a doubleheader with the women's team. The Eagles defeated Texas A&M International 2-0 on Wednesday evening.
