Home Sweet Home: After 13 straight road matches, the St. Mary's Volleyball Team finally opens the home portion of their season, hosting Cameron at 6 p.m. on Friday and #18 West Texas A&M at 2 on Saturday.
Believed First: Freshman MB Dallasstar Johnson recorded double figures in digs in both matches last weekend. It is believed to be the first time in StMU DII history a middle blocker has recorded 10 or more digs in back-to-back matches. The last time a MB had more than 10 digs in a match was Sept. 20, 2019 when Jasmine Sims had 14 at DBU. (2005 results missing)
Parity: St. Mary's was one of nine teams in the Lone Star Conference to split the first weekend of league action. The Rattlers lost in five (where the first three sets all went extra points) at Texas Woman's and bounced back to win in four sets at Midwestern State.
Series Histories: St. Mary's holds a 9-3 advantage in the all-time series against Cameron and the teams are 1-1 in Lone Star play. The Rattlers are a perfect 3-0 at home in matches against the Aggies. The Rattlers are just 2-22 against West Texas A&M and StMU fell in four sets to the Lady Buffs in the first week of the season. Each of the last two matches inside Bill Greehey have gone the distance and the Rattlers are looking to snap a 15-match losing streak, the longest active streak in school history and third-longest ever.
Double, Double, Toil & Trouble: Both So. S Cali Nims and Fr. OH Landri Withers have recorded double-doubles in each of the last two matches. Nims now has 10 in her career, while these were the first two of Withers' career. At TWU, Withers notched career-highs in both categories with 19 kills and 15 digs. Nims 33 assists at TWU are also a season-high and just six off her career-high of 39.
Top Freshmen: Freshman OH Landri Withers moved up six spots in the Lone Star statistics this week and now ranks 14th with 2.91 kills per set, which is the top mark among true freshmen in the league. L Alyssa Koehl leads the team in digs with 3.71 per set, which is 17th in the league and third among freshmen. MB Dallasstar Johnson leads the team with 1.07 blocks per set, which is 10th in the league.Â
Made To Be Broken: Freshman MB Dallasstar Johnson established a new record for individual block assists in a four-set match with 10 against Southeastern Oklahoma State, surpassing the previous total of eight. Senior MB Sadie Hough tied the school record for hitting percentage (10-14 attacks) in a match, hitting .900 (9-0-10) against UAFS.
Closing In: St. Mary's is now 12 wins shy of 900 in program history. The Rattlers are 888-682 all-time in their 46th season of volleyball.
