Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Posts Second-Straight Scoreless Draw

TYLER, Texas – For the second-straight game, the St. Mary's Men's Soccer Team ended in a scoreless tie, doing so in a non-conference matchup at UT Tyler on Wednesday evening.

Each team had five shots on goal, though the Rattlers outshot the Patriots 17-10 on the night. StMU is now 1-0-3 on the season, while UTT is 4-0-1.

"This was another tough game on the road tonight," said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. "Regardless of home or away we need to do a better job in the final third. We played well tonight, and we showed a lot of positives and improvements from last week. I still feel we have another couple of levels that we need to figure out how to get to quickly if we are going to be successful."

Junior goalkeeper Andre Schlaefli (Katy, Texas) recorded five saves and the defense limited UT Tyler to just one shot on goal in the second half.

"Another clean sheet tonight, which is a big plus," Clifford continued. "We will be back to work tomorrow. Since our first four games were all away from home we are excited to get home to our fans this weekend."

The Rattlers were more selective with their shots in the second half as four of the six shots were on goal.

Fifth-year senior Lewis Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland) saw his first action of the season, playing all 90 minutes, as did senior Ariel Cardozo (Ciudad de Este, Paraguay), senior Deni Cresto (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil), sophomore Bradley Greene (Essex, England) and Schlaefli.

St. Mary's hosts Texas A&M San Antonio at Sigma Beta Chi on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the team's home opener. Admission for StMU students is free.
