ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State managed to do what no other team has done this season and that's keep the St. Mary's Women's Soccer team off the scoreboard in the first half, but the Rattlers' senior
Megan Copeland (San Antonio) made a penalty kick in the 75th minute for the 1-0 win.
Â
The Rattlers are now 6-0 on the season, becoming the first team in school history to win their first six games of the year.
"The players deserve a great deal of credit for their efforts," said Head Coach
Kevin Driggs. "We are happy to be off to a great start. We are hoping to ride the momentum into conference play this week, which we know will be a massive challenge."
Â
St. Mary's doubled up the Grizzlies (1-3) in shots, 10-5 and had five shots on goal, compared to just two for ASU.
Â
Sophomore goalkeeper
Rebecca Difronzo (Bari, Italy) made one save in each half to keep Adams State scoreless. The Rattlers have now gone 342 minutes without allowing a goal and have shut out four of the six opponents.
Â
St. Mary's hosts St. Edward's in the Lone Star Conference opener on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
