SAN ANTONIO -- After getting shut out in the first game against the top-ranked team in the nation, the St. Mary's Softball team almost pulled off the upset in game two, falling 7-6 after taking a 6-4 lead late.

Trailing 4-1 after four innings, the Rattlers (31-10, 15-7 Lone Star Conference) plated one in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 6-4 advantage heading into the seventh, but the Patriots (32-4, 18-4 Lone Star) pushed three across in the seventh for the 7-6 win.

Jayme Johns (Elgin, Texas) recorded two of the team's three hits in the first game, a 5-0 loss, while freshman
Cassidy Mageors (Freeport, Texas) had the other. Freshman
Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) moved to 6-5 on the year, throwing a career-high 130 pitches.

The Rattlers had an easier time on offense in the nightcap, registering six runs on nine hits with three walks. Senior
Tiffany Licon (Austin, Texas) was 2-for-2, including a single up the middle in the sixth that knotted the score at 4-4. Sophomore
Reba Reyes (Brownsville, Texas) followed with a double to centerfield for two RBIs.

St. Mary's is now 6-12 all-time against the No. 1 team in the country with a 2-4 mark at home. The Rattlers look to rebound against No. 13 Texas A&M Commerce on Sunday for Senior Day. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon.
