MIDLAND, Texas – For the 10th-straight meeting, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis team defeated UT Permian Basin, winning 6-1 on Thursday.

In the team's first Lone Star Conference road match, the Rattlers improved to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in conference action with the victory.

Bill Macom shook up the doubles pairings and it seemed to pay off as the Rattlers won the first point of the day. Playing together for the first time this season, seniors
Alice Thane (Elloughton, East Yorkshire, England) and
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) got things started with a 6-2 victory at number two doubles. UTPB won at No. 3, but freshman
Bailey Godwin (San Antonio) and junior
Angela Vargas (Del Rio, Texas) held on for the 6-4 win at No. 1.

Senior
Marina Vigil (Gijon, Spain) only dropped two games to win the opening singles bout at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1. Junior
Gabi Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) won the first set 6-3, but stumbled by the same score in the second before rebounding with the 6-0 win the third set. Penshorn clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 1.

Vargas kept things rolling with her 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 2 and sophomore
Elena Munoz (Corregidora, Queretaro, Mexico) won the sixth-team point with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory at #4.
