SILVER CITY, N.M. – For the second-straight match, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis Team won with a 6-1 score, defeating Western New Mexico on Saturday afternoon.

The win moves the Rattlers to 13-3 on the year and 5-1 in Lone Star Conference play and is the 300th victory for Head Coach
Bill Macom on the women's side.

St. Mary's dominated in doubles play as the three recently shuffled squads only dropped two games in the 20 played. The number one team of junior
Angela Vargas (Del Rio, Texas) and freshman
Bailey Godwin (San Antonio) won 6-2, while seniors
Alice Thane (Elloughton, East Yorkshire, England) and
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) won 6-0 at number two and senior
Marina Vigil (Gijon, Spain) and junior Gabi Ioannnou (Melbourne, Australia) also shut out the opposition at No. 3.

All five singles matches that were competed were won in straight sets by the Gold & Blue. Vigil had to withdraw at number four for the lone Mustang point. All five Rattlers allowed the opposition to win four games or less in the lopsided victory.

Penshorn won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, Vargas flipped the set scores winning 6-0, 6-2, senior
Maria Garcia (Valencia, Spain) returned to singles action and won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Sophomore
Elena Munoz (Corregidora, Queretaro, Mexico) was victorious with identical 6-2 set scores at No. 5 and Ioannou wrapped things up with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the sixth spot.

The Rattlers return home to wrap up the home portion of the regular season, hosting Midwestern State on Friday at 10 a.m. and DBU at 9 a.m. on Saturday for Senior Day.
