ARLINGTON, Texas – The top seeds held throughout the first day of the Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Championship, including St. Mary's, which defeated UAFS 4-1.

The Rattlers (16-5) advanced to the semifinals with the victory and will face top-seeded Midwestern State (16-5) on Friday at 1 p.m.

St. Mary's took charge during doubles play as the tandem of sophomore
Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio and senior
Pablo Munoz Baroja (San Sebastián, Spain) shut out the Lions No. 1 team, 6-0. Sophomores
Niklas Knoerr (Tübingen, Germany) and
Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru) won handily at No. 2, 6-2 to complete the first point of the day.

Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) dropped only one game in getting the Rattlers their second point, defeating Nicolas Retamales 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Juan Rosello cut the lead in half when he defeated Knoerr 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4, but the top two spots got big wins to help the team advance.

Faryniarz at No. 2 singles and senior
Chad Nguyen (College Station, Texas) at No. 1 both got a late break of serve to win their first set by identical 7-5 scores. Faryniarz won 6-3 in the second set, while Nguyen finished moments later with a 6-2 victory to give the Rattlers the 4-1 win.
