LUBBOCK, Texas – The St. Mary's Softball Team split with the No. 14 team in the country on Friday evening, winning game one 3-1 before dropping game two 8-4.

The Rattlers moved to 17-9 in the Lone Star Conference standings and are 33-14 overall with four games remaining in the regular season. The team is currently seventh in the standings and they face sixth-place and No. 10 nationally, Angelo State on Saturday in games rescheduled from Sunday.Â

Senior
Tiffany Licon (Austin, Texas) hit .500 in the doubleheader, going 3-for-6 with her first home run of the season, while senior
Victoria Aldridge (Elgin, Texas) was 3-for-7 with the only walk of the day and one RBI.

Freshman
Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) pitched a complete game in the first game victory for the Rattlers, allowing one run on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts. It is her third complete game of the season and she evens her record at 7-7.

Junior
Catalina Cavazos (Houston) took the loss in game two to move to 17-3 on the year. She surrendered an uncharacteristic seven runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings. Freshman
Savannah Youngblood (Kingswood, Texas) and sophomore
Sara Robertson (Lorena, Texas) both worked in relief.

Senior
Jayme Johns (Elgin) started things in both scoring innings during game one, reaching on a throwing error with one out in the fourth inning and scoring on a fielder's choice two batters later off the bat of senior
Abigale Carney (El Paso, Texas). In the sixth, Johns singled to third, moved to second on a fielding error by the second baseman off the bat of freshman
Jamison Holder (Magnolia, Texas), scampered to third on another fielder's choice by Carney that went to short and scored on a bunt single by senior
Bari Christian (San Antonio).

In the nightcap, the Rattlers scored one run in the first, fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but it wasn't enough at the Lady Chaps plated two in the second and fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 8-4 win. St. Mary's had nine hits and one error, while LCU had 12 hits and committed two errors.

Aldridge and Licon were both 2-for-3 in the game and Licon scored two runs. Johns added a double, as did sophomore
Reba Reyes pinch hitting in the seventh, but the Rattlers couldn't complete the comeback.
