SAN ANTONIO – Using the positive emotions from the Senior Day festivities prior to the match, the St. Mary's Men's Tennis team swept DBU on Saturday afternoon, 7-0.

The Rattlers, ranked No. 72 this week in the ITA poll, honored graduate transfers Pablo Munoz Baroja (San Sebastian, Spain) and Chad Nguyen (College Station, Texas) prior to the match, along with the three seniors on the women's team and kept things rolling with their sixth shutout of the year.

The tandem of freshman Niklas Knoerr (Tübingen, Germany) and Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru) improved to 11-2 on the season with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Nguyen and sophomore Sebastian Azcui (La Paz, Bolivia) won 6-2 at No. 3 and Baroja and sophomore Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) got a late break of serve to win 7-5 at the top line.

Baroja dropped only one game at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0, while sophomore Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) lost only two in his 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Llosa clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 and Knoerr won by identical 6-4 scores at No. 4.

Faryniarz also won in straight sets, doing so by the score of 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 and Nguyen won a thriller at No. 1. He lost the first set 7-5, but bounced back to tie the match with a 6-4 second-set win. Nguyen trailed 8-6 in the third-set using the international doubles scoring, but dug deep scoring six of the next eight points for the 12-10 victory.
