NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – For the second-time this season, the St. Mary's Women's Tennis team faced a team ranked in the top five and came out on the short end, falling 5-2 to fifth-ranked Cameron at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch on Friday.

The Aggies (13-2, 3-0 Lone Star) won two of the three doubles matches for the first point of the day. The duo of senior
Marina Vigil (Gijon, Spain) and junior
Gabi Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) recorded a late break of serve for the 7-5 win at No. 3 for the Rattlers (11-3, 3-1 Lone Star).

The Rattlers also got wins in singles play at No. 4 and No. 5. Vigil won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 to improve to 3-1 in league action, while senior
Alice Thane (Elloughton, East Yorkshire, England) pulled out a straight-sets 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5.

Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas), junior
Angela Vargas (Del Rio, Texas) and senior
Maria Garcia (Valencia, Spain) fell in tough three-set bouts in spots one through three, respectively. Both Penshorn and Vargas won set one with 7-5 scores before dropping the next two sets, while Garcia came out on fire in the second set for the 6-0 win.

The Gold & Blue hit the road next week, traveling to UT Permian Basin on Thursday and Western New Mexico on Friday before wrapping up the home portion of the regular season the following weekend.
