Penshorn Nets Her First LSC Player of Week Award

RICHARDSON, Texas - In the midst of a standout career, St. Mary's Women's Tennis player Ashley Penshorn was Wednesday named Lone Star Conference Player of the Week for the first time.

Penshorn, a senior from Montgomery, Texas, dropped only two games on the weekend as the Rattlers beat No. 29 Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The senior won 6-0, 6-0 against 55th-ranked Valentina Gonzalez from ASU and 6-2, 6-0 against Maya Donkor from the Javelinas in top-line matches. Penshorn also won both doubles matches at No. 2 for the Rattlers, winning by identical 6-4 scores with partner Bailey Godwin. Penshorn is now 9-2 for the spring in singles matches, with her only losses coming against nationally-ranked opponents.

Penshorn is 58-14 for her career at singles and her 58 dual victories rank sixth all-time in St. Mary's history. She becomes the second Rattler to earn a weekly award in 2022, as freshman Callah Preti was named Player of the Week in the first week of the spring season.
