KINGSVILLE, Texas – A tough third-quarter cost the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Texas A&M Kingsville as they lost 66-51.
Â
The Rattlers (2-18, 1-8 Lone Star Conference) scored only six in the third 10-minute period but outscored the Javelinas (15-6, 8-2 Lone Star) in both the second and fourth quarters.
Â
Senior forward
Hannah Wilson (Fredericksburg, Texas) led the team with 21 points and 18 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season and her fourth game of scoring 20 or more. Junior
Sydney Hardeman (Allen, Texas) added 12 points, adding two more three-pointers to her list.Â
Â
Hardeman now has 56 triples on the year, which is already tied for sixth on the St. Mary's single game records. She knots Natalie Gamez (2008-09) and Jackie Woods (2013-14). The single season record is 77 by Meosha Nash from 2002-03.
Â
Mya Culiver (Rockwall, Texas) led the team with six assists – the second-highest total of the year for the fifth-year senior. Since Culiver reentered the starting lineup seven games ago she is averaging 4.3 assists per game.
Â
The Javelinas had a trio score in double figures as Mia Cherry came off the bench to lead the team with 15, Devon Williams narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds and Brianna Pena added 11.
Â
The Rattlers return home to host UT Permian Basin on Monday in one of the makeup games from earlier in the year. The teams will take the court at Bill Greehey Arena at 2 p.m.
