SAN ANTONIO – For the first time all season, St. Mary's Women's Basketball Head Coach
Jason Martens was able to play all 13 players on the roster in a game – and he took advantage as they all saw action for over five minutes.
For the second time this season, junior
Tonia Bilic (Zagreb, Croatia) had a stellar game against Angelo State (12-11, 9-3 Lone Star Conference), leading the team with 11 points in just 10 minutes of action. She also had an assist and a blocked shot. Sophomore
Bella Hughes (Argyle, Texas) added 10 points, making a season-best three three-pointers in the 89-65 loss.
In the first meeting between the teams back in December, Bilic recorded her only double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
The Rattlers (2-22, 1-12 LSC) out-rebounded the Rambelles 37-to-32 on the afternoon, led by senior
Hannah Wilson with six despite her playing only three minutes in the second half. Freshman guard Sarai Estupiñan (Cedar Park, Texas) had a team-best three assists.
Both freshman
Faith Phillips (San Marcos, Texas) and junior
Natalia Ryng (Gdynia, Poland) were second on the club with five boards each.
The Rambelles shot a blazing 53 percent from the field for the game and turned the ball over just seven times, limiting opportunities for the Rattlers to come back. Blakely Gerber led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Sawyer Lloyd had a game-high seven assists and five steals.
St. Mary's has just four games left in the season, traveling to UT Tyler and Texas A&M Commerce this weekend, before returning home to host West Texas A&M on Monday, Feb. 21 at 3:30 p.m. and St. Edward's on Senior Night on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
