SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team continued to show its dominance in the early season, sweeping the St. Thomas Celts on Saturday afternoon in windy conditions.

The Rattlers improved to 4-0 with their fourth-straight 7-0 shutout. The Celts were short-handed and forfeited the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles spots.

The pair of
Ashley Penshorn (Montgomery, Texas) and redshirt freshman
Bailey Godwin (San Antonio) won 6-2 at No. 2 to clinch the doubles points for the Gold & Blue, while seniors
Alice Thane (Elloughton, East Yorkshire, England) and
Marina Vigil (Gijon, Spain) won 6-3 at the top spot.

Maria Garcia (Valencia, Spain) at No. 1, sophomore
Gabi Ioannou (Melbourne, Australia) at No. 5 and Thane at No. 4 all shut out their opponents winning 6-0, 6-0.

Penshorn won the first set 6-0 at No. 2 and 6-2 in the second set for the sweep, while Vigil los one game in the first set and two in the second to put the exclamation point on the 7-0 win.

St. Mary's has a week off from action, hosting Hardin-Simmons next Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.
