Fourth Quarter Proves Costly for Women's Basketball

SAN ANTONIO – A rough fourth quarter hurt the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team on Thursday night, as they were outscored 19-to-5 and lost 70-61.

The Rattlers (2-20, 1-10 Lone Star Conference) outscored Oklahoma Christian (1-18, 1-10 LSC) by five in the first half and the two teams were equal in the third quarter, but StMU was just 2-for-16 from the field with five turnovers in the final stanza and the Eagles shot 40 percent with no miscues.

Senior forward Hannah Wilson (Fredericksburg, Texas) scored 20 or more for the fifth time this season and the second time in three games with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Briley Perkins (Houston) joined Wilson in double digits with 11 points behind a perfect 6-for-6 night at the free throw line and senior guard Mya Culiver (Round Rock, Texas) added nine points.

The Rattlers blocked six shots in the contest, led by a career-high three from junior Michaela Kucera (Schwäbisch Hall, Germany) and two from Wilson.

St. Mary's turned the ball over just 15 times, tied for the second-lowest total of the season and the Rattlers won the battle of the boards, 49-to-40.

Oklahoma Christian was led by guard Brooklin Bain with 28 points and 18 rebounds, though the Rattlers limited her to just five points in the second half.

The Rattlers close out the four-game homestand with a 2 p.m. contest against UAFS on Saturday.
