Men's Basketball Takes Advantage of Miscues

SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Men's Basketball team took advantage of turnovers on Saturday evening, scoring 24 points off 18 Eastern New Mexico turnovers to improve to 2-0 in Lone Star Conference action with a 76-66 victory.

The win moves the Rattlers to 2-0 in Lone Star play and 3-2 overall. It is the first time since 2012-13 the team has started 2-0 in league action. That team finished 9-4 in Heartland Conference play and won the Heartland Tournament.

Junior Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) scored a career-high 29 points, narrowly missing a double-double with a game-high eight rebounds. He also didn't commit a foul playing the entire 40 minutes.

Senior Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) was almost perfect from the field, going 2-for-2 at the three-point line and four-for-four at the free throw line for 12 points, missing one shot inside the arc.  He also chipped in five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Senior Emmanuel Ewuzie (San Antonio) had a game-high three steals and spent the majority of the game at the free throw line, where he had nine attempts after drawing seven fouls.

The game went back-and-forth with eight ties and 10 lead changes, but the Rattlers scored 12 more points in the second half than the Greyhounds (5-3, 0-2 Lone Star) for the 10-point victory.

The Rattlers turn their attention to final exams this week, returning to the court on Saturday, December 10 at Cameron at 3 p.m. and Midwestern State on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
