Women's Basketball Fades Late in Exhibition at UTRGV

EDINBURG, Texas – Playing its third game in six days, the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team seemed to run out of gas late in an exhibition game at UTRGV on Thursday, as the Vaqueros scored 12 of the final 14 points to pull away, 55-39.

Senior forward Natalia Ryng (Gdynia, Poland) carried over her momentum from the second overtime on Monday evening at Midwestern State, leading the Rattlers with 10 points and tying for team-high honors with six rebounds, while fellow senior Tonia Bilic (Zagreb, Croatia) filled the stat sheet scoring nine, grabbing six rebounds, dishing out five assists and collecting two steals.

Despite being outsized by the Division I squad, the Rattlers were only outrebounded by three, 42-39 in the game and the team did a good job of sharing the ball, recording 11 assists on 15 made baskets. StMU also played clean basketball, getting whistled for only 12 fouls in the 40 minutes.

St. Mary's returns home to host Schreiner on Saturday at 1 p.m. before breaking for the holidays.
