WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The St. Mary's Men's Basketball team saw its winning streak come to an end at four games with a 74-61 loss at Midwestern State on Monday night.
The Mustangs (3-6, 1-3 Lone Star Conference) scored the first seven points of contest, forcing the Rattlers (4-3, 3-1 Lone Star) to play catch up all evening.
Sophomore guard
Diego Gonzalez (Arecibo, Puerto Rico) came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 13 points, going 6-for-6 from the field. Senior
Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) scored 12 and senior
Mamady Djikine (Paris, France) chipped in 10 and led the team with seven rebounds.
Senior guard
Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) and Leonard each had three steals to tie for the team lead, while Jordan had a team-best three assists.
The team shot only 38.1 percent in the first half, including a 1-for-8 (12.5 percent) performance from behind the arc. The team bounced back to shoot 46.7 in the second half, but couldn't overcome the 14-point deficit from the first 20 minutes.
The Rattlers step out of Lone Star Conference play, hosting Dallas Christian on Saturday, Dec. 17 and Arlington Baptist on Monday, Dec. 19 before taking an 11-day break for the holidays. Tip-off against Dallas Christian is set for 3:30 p.m.
