SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Women's Basketball took over in the fourth quarter, outscoring Dallas Christian 23-6 to rebound from a 16-point deficit and win 62-60 on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Rattlers (3-1) used defense to get the offense going, grabbing four steals and blocking a shot, while holding the Crusaders to 2-of-11 shooting from the field to mount the comeback. The team finally took advantage of its size to go down low as senior
Natalia Ryng (Gdynia, Poland) scored six and junior
Reyelle Frazier (Tacoma, Wash.) drove in low to add four.
Â
Senior
Tonia Bilic (Zagreb, Croatia) led the team with 12 points, while sophomore
Faith Phillips (San Marcos, Texas) recorded the first double-double of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She and Bilic also tied for game-high honors with four assists each.Â
Â
For the second-straight game, the Gold & Blue completely dominated on the boards, outrebounding DCC 56-33. Almost half of the team's rebounds were offensive as the 23 led to 21 second-chance points.
Â
Keiarra Rivers led the Crusaders, who had an extremely shortened bench, with a game-high 17 points and tied for the lead in rebounds with 10.
Â
After struggling with shooting in the second and third quarters, the Rattlers bounced back to shoot .476 (10-for-21) in the final stanza.
St. Mary's remains at home, hosting North American on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
