SAN ANTONIO – Tying the St. Mary's single-season record for game-winning goals in a season,
Megan Copeland helped lead the Women's Soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Copeland, a senior from San Antonio, scored on a free kick in the 80th minute after freshman
Sydney Varela (El Paso, Texas) was fouled just outside the penalty box. It is the fifth game-winner of the season and the eighth of her storied career.
Â
The win moves the Rattlers to 9-2-2 on the year and 3-2-2 in Lone Star Conference action and is the fourth-straight shutout for the defense. It has been 437 minutes since the Gold & Blue has surrendered a goal.
Â
With the win, the Rattlers have matched last year's total of nine victories and there are five regular season contests remaining on the slate.
Â
The Rattlers defense limited the Eagles (3-6-4, 1-5-2 LSC) to just six shots on the day and none on goal.
Â
Six of the 11 starters played all 90 minutes for the Rattlers, including sophomore goalkeeper
Rebecca Difronzo (Bari, Italy), Copeland, senior defender
Jackie Miller (El Paso), junior midfielder
Love' Tovar (El Paso), sophomore defender
Nayeli Celedon (San Antonio) and freshman midfielder
Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas).
