DENTON, Texas – In the Lone Star Conference opener for the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team, the Rattlers come back fell short, losing 69-56 at Texas Woman's on Thursday evening.
At the 2:38 mark of the first quarter, senior forward
Hannah Wilson (Fredericksburg, Texas) recorded the 1,000th rebound of her career. She ended the evening with six rebounds for 1,005 in her career, needing just 16 more to break the all-time St. Mary's mark of 1,020 by Kiara Etheridge (2013-2017).
Junior
Sydney Hardeman (Allen, Texas) led the Rattlers with 18 points, tying her career-high for the second time in three games. Hardeman drilled four three-pointers, giving her 11 in the last three contests. Wilson was second on the team with 15 points and junior
Briley Perkins (Houston) added a season-high 10 points after going 4-for-5 from the field.
Junior guard
Tonia Bilic (Zagreb, Croatia) tied for the team lead with six rebounds as the Rattlers were outrebounded for the first time in eight games, 33-to-31.
The Rattlers (1-11, 0-1 Lone Star) shot a season-best 50 percent from the field and were 8-for-15 from beyond the arc (53.3 percent). On the flip side, the Gold & Blue were only 2-for-8 (25 percent) from the free throw line.
Texas Woman's (8-3, 1-0 Lone Star) was led by Ashley Ingram with 22 points, while both Scout Huffman and Agang Tac added 13 each. The Pioneers also took care of the ball, turning it over only six times in the game.
The Rattlers get a short turnaround as they play at Midwestern State on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Mustangs defeated St. Edward's 72-58 earlier on Thursday.
INDIVDIUAL PLAYER & TEAM NOTES
- Junior Bella Hughes (Argyle, Texas) played for the first time since the 2019-20 season, seeing action in three minutes. She recorded one foul.
- Senior forward Hannah Wilson became the second player in St. Mary's history to record 1,000 rebounds in a career, grabbing six for the game to give her 1,005.
- The eight three-pointers for the Rattlers are the most in a game this season. The team had made seven on two other occasions.
- In the last three games, junior Sydney Hardeman has drained 11 three-pointers, including four in the game against Texas Woman's.
- Wilson snapped a five-game streak of double-doubles, ending the night with 15 points and six rebounds.
