Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

A Dozen Triples Helps Lift MBB Past St. Ed's

AUSTIN – Snapping a seven-game losing skid inside the Recreation and Athletics Center in a thrilling fashion, the St. Mary's Men's Basketball team won a 93-85 decision at St. Edward's on Tuesday night.

The Rattlers (6-7, 3-1 Lone Star) won their second consecutive road game in conference play, their third-straight overall to move within one game of .500 and they did it with a balanced attack and a hot night of shooting from beyond the arc.

The five starters for the Rattlers all scored in double figures, accounting for all but 10 of the team's 93 points. Senior guard Kobe Magee (San Antonio) led the way with 22 points off the strength of a 6-for-9 performance from the three-point line and three assists. Both sophomore Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) and Ryan Leonard (Kerry, Ireland) scored 18, Mamady Djikine (Paris, France) chipped in 13 and Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) added 12 – including a perfect 8-for-8 night at the free throw line.

Caron also led the game with 10 rebounds, recording his first double-double of the season and the third of his career. His 18 points are also a season-high in scoring, surpassing the 15 he tallied against Texas A&M Kingsville on Dec. 20.

St. Mary's shot 51.7 percent (30-58) from the field, 54.5 percent (12-22) from the arc and 84 percent (21-25) from the charity stripe. They held the Hilltoppers (9-9, 2-5 LSC) to just 29.2 percent (7-24) from three-point land.

Four of the five SEU starters were also in double figures in scoring, led by 22 from Uche Dibiamaka. Mason Hix had eight rebounds and Daniel Venzant added eight assists to lead the team.

St. Mary's returns home to host Western New Mexico on Saturday at 4 p.m. and will also play two of its makeup games on Monday and Tuesday. Monday is also slated for 4, while the game Tuesday against West Texas A&M will begin at 2 p.m.
