Turnovers Costly in Women's Basketball Loss

Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas – Some days, there's nothing you can do but tip your hat to the opponent for a game well played and that's what the St. Mary's Women's Basketball team had to do against tenth-ranked Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Chaps (16-3, 5-2 LSC) put on a shooting clinic from deep, hitting 12 three-pointers against a depleted Rattlers (1-14, 0-4 LSC) roster that had only eight available players for the second-straight game as they fell 72-39.

All eight players scored at least two points and brought down at least two rebounds, led by junior Sydney Hardeman (Allen, Texas) with 11 points and senior Hannah Wilson (Fredericksburg, Texas) with eight rebounds.

The Rattlers were efficient from the three-point line, sinking 6-of-11 attempts for 55 percent and made seven of nine free throws (78 percent), however St. Mary's turned the ball over a season-high 34 times against one of the top defenses in the nation, leading to 31 points for LCU.

The Lady Chaps were led by senior Ashton Duncan with 24 points. The daughter of LCU's men's coach went 8-for-13 from behind the arc. Laynee Burr had a team-high six rebounds and preseason player of the year Allie Schulte had eight assists.

The Rattlers have a quick turnaround, playing at St. Edward's on Tuesday at 5:30 before hosting Western New Mexico on Saturday at 2 p.m.
