Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 24 Rattlers Defeat Metro State with Golden Goal, 3-2

THE RECAP
No. 24 St. Mary's won a thrilling season opener over MSU Denver, 3-2, thanks to a golden goal from Erwin Regules. The Rattlers (1-0) and Roadrunners (0-1) battled all night long in what was a closely contested season debut.

The Rattlers trailed early on after Metro State scored in the 4th minute, but didn't fade away from the challenge. Just a few minutes later, Tony Andoyan redirected a well-placed cross from Youssef Mouaddib into the lower left corner for the equalizer.

However, Metro State responded just 54 seconds later with a short shot past the keeper and into the net. The game settled into a competitive lull on the scoresheet until in the 78th minute, when Cian Foley headed a Sebastian Rivera cross into the twine to swing the momentum back in favor of the Rattlers.

Finally, with the game in overtime, Erwin Regules answered the call and scored his first career StMU goal, putting a move on his defender and striking the golden goal into the lower left corner, just out of reach of the keeper.
