THE RECAP
The St. Mary's Rattlers knocked off UT-Tyler in dramatic 1-0 fashion after Andrick Ferrer scored in the 86th minute. The Rattlers have now won three in a row and have recorded shutouts in back-to-back games.
The Patriots and Rattlers battled all night long in what was a very physical contest. Both teams put their defense on display in a game that didn't crack the scoreboard until the waning moments. In fact, the first half was extremely quiet. There were only nine total shots taken in the opening 45 minutes.
Despite the lack of offense, there was plenty of physical combat on the pitch. There were 25 fouls recorded throughout the night. There were four yellow cards issued.
As the game progressed into the final five minutes, it seemed as if the contest was destined for overtime. Enter Andrick Ferrer. The speedy forward found the ball at his feet and darted in and out of the Patriot defense, finally finding a crease and firing the ball into the top right corner of the net. The Rattlers would then hang on in the final four minutes to secure the victory.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- Andrick recorded his first goal as a Rattler on Wednesday night.
- Andre Schlaefli recorded his second straight shutout after adding three more diving saves to his card.
- The Rattlers are on their first three-game winning streak since March of the 2020 season.
HEAD COACH JOHNNY CLIFFORD ON THE WIN
"We knew it was going to be a battle tonight. I thought we could have been a little bit cleaner on the ball, but we did battle. They beat us here last year so we were focused on getting a little bit of revenge tonight. I think we've done a good job building our brand of ball. We got away from that a little bit tonight, but it's all about recovery now as we prepare for Saturday."
