Rattlers Score Season-High Six Goals In Victory Over Mountaineers

THE RECAP
The St. Mary's Rattlers earned their second win of the season behind an explosive night of offense, 6-3. The Rattlers (2-2) jumped all over the Mountaineers early and continued to pour it on throughout the evening, collecting a season-high six goals in the game.

StMU started the scoring in the 17th minute when Juni Ejere found the back of a yawning net. Ejere sidestepped the goalkeeper, who came way out of her box, and easily converted the uncontested goal.

After the Mountaineers found the equalizer, Eliza Merrion once again stepped up. After receiving a beautiful feed from Love' Tovar, Merrion scored her third goal of the season to put the Rattlers up, 2-1, heading into the break.

Upon returning to the pitch, the Rattlers made it clear that their night of scoring was far from over. Once again, Ejere and Merrion combined to put a pair of goals on the board. Separated by just 53 seconds, Juni and Eliza each tallied their second goals of the evening and made it a 4-1 Rattlers lead. Miranda Narvaez would register the assist on each goal.

The Mountaineers would find their second goal of the evening in the 62nd minute, but senior Alexis Lawrence immediately answered by firing the ball just under the crossbar from 12 feet out. Alexis Garcia would add the final goal for the Rattlers in the 86th minute to seal St. Mary's first home victory of the season.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- The six goals in a single game was the largest offensive total for the Rattlers since they beat Texas Lutheran, 12-0, on March 14th.
- Ejere and Merrion both fell just one goal shy of their first hat tricks as Rattlers.
- St. Mary's continues to outshoot their opponents with regularity. On Friday, the Rattlers out-shot the Mountaineers 24-9.

HEAD COACH KEVIN DRIGGS ON THE PERFORMANCE
"I was really happy with the way that we played in the attacking third. We've been working on that all week. You need to be able to take care of your chances and we did that tonight. To be able to put in six goals is really encouraging, now we will really focus on our defensive game."

UP NEXT
The Rattlers will play host to Division I opponent Texas Southern on Sunday afternoon. The Rattlers and Tigers will kick-off at 1pm from Sigma Beta Chi Field.
