Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rattler Defense Stifles Tigers to Earn Second Win in a Row

THE RECAPĀ
The Rattlers came out ready to play today againstĀ Texas Southern, taming the Tigers and winning 1-0 on a sweltering afternoon in San Antonio. St. Mary's (3-2) has now won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Both teams struggled to find their offensive footing initially as neither team was able to register a shot over firstĀ fewĀ minutes of the game. However, the Rattlers regained focus and ended upĀ with ten shots to close out the half.Ā The defense was strong, only allowing the Tigers five total shots in the first half.Ā

The Rattlers came out of the halftime breakĀ withĀ energy and determination and scored theĀ game'sĀ lone goalĀ in the 47thĀ minute.Ā Off a reboundĀ from a blocked shot in the box, Jackie Miller painted the corner and shot the ball right by the goaltender into the left corner.Ā

The RattlersĀ dominated in every aspectĀ of the game. The team had more shots and heldĀ possessionĀ for more than halfĀ of the game.Ā On a hot Sunday afternoon, the Rattlers had seven players that played the entire 90Ā minutes of the match, showing the perseverance this team needed to notch back-to-back wins.Ā

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- The Rattlers stayed in attack mode allĀ game, outshooting the Tigers 19-8.Ā

- St. Mary's has never lost to Texas Southern, holding a 5-0 record against the Tigers after today's victory.Ā

- Texas SouthernĀ was forced out of their rhythm early by the Rattlers, committing ten fouls to just three by St. Mary's.

HEAD COACH KEVIN DRIGGS ON THE PERFORMANCE
"I thought we lookedĀ very good, we kept the ball and showed our strength going with a smaller lineup. We looked a lot more organized than the past games, which is very encouraging. When we hold theĀ ball,Ā we are a much betterĀ teamĀ and we look to focus on that going forward.

UP NEXTĀ
The Rattlers conclude their three-game home stand this Wednesday, hosting Angelo State in their Lone Star Conference opener. The match is scheduled to kick off at 2Ā p.mĀ on Sigma Beta Chi Field.Ā
